چکیده

"Topographic" mappings occur frequently in the brain. A popular approach to understanding the structure of such mappings is to map points representing input features in a space of a few dimensions to points in a 2 dimensional space using some selforganizing algorithm. We argue that a more general approach may be useful, where similarities between features are not constrained to be geometric distances, and the objective function for topographic matching is chosen explicitly rather than being specified implicitly by the self-organizing algorithm. We investigate analytically an example of this more general approach applied to the structure of interdigitated mappings, such as the pattern of ocular dominance columns in primary visual cortex.

Applying Logical Constraints to Ontology Matching

Automatically discovering semantic relations between ontologies is an important task with respect to overcoming semantic heterogeneity on the semantic web. Ontology matching systems, however, often produce erroneous mappings. In this paper we propose a method for optimizing precision and recall of existing matching systems. The principle of this method is based on the idea that it is possible t...

A Hybrid Soft Computing Approach for Optimizing Design Parameters of Electrical Drives

In this paper, we are applying a hybrid soft computing approach for optimizing the performance of electrical drives where many degrees of freedom are allowed in the variation of design parameters. The hybrid nature of our approach originates from the application of multi-objective evolutionary algorithms (MOEAs) to solve the complex optimization problems combined with the integration of non-lin...

Shown ®rst is the equivalence between the multiple expansion (ME) of the brain electrical generator and the spherical harmonic spectra (SHS) of the potential generated by the electrical generator in an in®nite volume conductor. Based on the equivalence, the SHS and the spatial ®lters which connect the SHS with the ME are deduced, in a concentric 3 sphere conductor and for the 5 EEG source mappi...

Finding Legal Reordering Transformations Using Mappings

Traditionally, optimizing compilers attempt to improve the performance of programs by applying source to source transformations, such as loop interchange, loop skewing and loop distribution. Each of these transformations has its own special legality checks and transformation rules which make it hard to analyze or predict the eeects of compositions of these transformations. To overcome these pro...

Tonotopic organization in human auditory cortex revealed by progressions of frequency sensitivity.

Functional neuroimaging experiments have revealed an organization of frequency-dependent responses in human auditory cortex suggestive of multiple tonotopically organized areas. Numerous studies have sampled cortical responses to isolated narrow-band stimuli, revealing multiple locations in auditory cortex at which the position of response varies systematically with frequency content. Because a...
